Race Diary

Following on from last years victory (a much desired 1st place), the team is ready for the new season.

May 2009 - Mallory Park
Dear Diary - This years 1st race sees us travel south to Brands hatch, & hitting the road on Saturday afternoon with our new bright yellow van, it brings back many memories of us traversing the country. Its a long time since I've been to brands but its a circuit that seems to hold pleasant memories & I recall both Tom & Martin having good races here in their 2cvs!
Tin Top racing is very civilised with scrutineering at 9am leaving plenty of time for a welcome brands hatch full breakfast! Qualifying is uneventful but the new 'cut-slick' tyres are yet again proving to bolster the performance of the car. 2nd place was achieved in our class however with 1st place being some 4 seconds away, a victory was not looking likely.
Tom made a stirling start using all his experience in the melee of the 1st few corners fighting in the pack, unfortunalty 'an incident' took place leaving us seeing the sights at 'clearways'. Making a very strong recovery from last place, Tom made the bold decision to make an early driver change having regained 4th place.
Richard (Toms'  son) set out to track down an achievable 3rd place & puts in consistently fast laps (I'll leave it to father & Son to decide who actually did the fastest lap!). A strong overtaking move sees us take 3rd place. "It is never over until the fat lady sings" an incident with one of the back markers leads to the safety car being brought onto the track bunching all of the cars up behind it and closing the gap between us and 2nd place. With 6 mins left of the race, the pace car pulls off the track & the race is on! With 1 and a half laps left, Richard pulls off a strong overtaking move into paddock hill leaving the Alfa with all the work to do to regain 2nd place. Good old Italian reliability, or unreliability, takes the pressure off and gifts us 2nd place.......a well earned & well fought result!
Our next race is at Mallory Park on bank holiday Sunday, come and say hello, have your picture taken with the car & we'll pop it into a draw for you to win a free MOT (T & C's apply). Draw to take place in August 2009.
